Show Choir / Hawkapella

Extra-Curricular Opportunities

Spectrum Show Choir:  Singing and Dancing, auditioned group which meets after schools every Tuesday from 2:25-3:45pm;  Dues are $125 and cover uniform rentals and choreographer fees, choreography camp, etc.  

Hawkapella:   An auditioned A Cappella vocal group which meets after school on Mondays from 2:25-3:25;  Students choose their own repertoire and arrange harmonies "Sing-Off" or "Pitch Perfect" style;  Dues are $20.00 for this group.  Uniforms vary and are determined by the group for each performance.  

GHSA Literary Meet:  Competition Male Quartet, Women's Trio, and Female and Male soloist to represent Mill Creek at Region Literary Meet.  Auditions will be held late October.  Trio, Quartet and soloist will perform at Winter concert and LGPE concert this year.  

National Anthem Singing for Basketball Games:  Choral students are invited to audition to sing the National Anthem in small group (trio, duet) or solo for all home basketball games.   Auditions will be held late November.  

GMEA District Honor Chorus:  High-achieving singing Hawks who demonstrate personal rehearsal discipline and above-average musicianship will be selected to participate in Honor Chorus.  Honor Chorus will be held October 31st and November 1st in Athens, GA.  

GMEA All-State Chorus:  Mill Creek Students are encouraged to try out for Georgia Music Educator Association All-State Chorus; Students must pass two rigorous auditions to earn membership into this elite group of singers from across the state.   Students must audition with a prepared Italian Aria (see the All-State section of this website), sing major/natural minor/and chromatic scales, pass an aural test, pass a vocabulary and symbols test, and sight-sing 3 examples.   All State event takes place in Athens, GA March 5-7th, 2015.   

GMEA All-State Reading Chorus:  Auditions for this special choir for the state's BEST Sight-Singers, will take place in Athens, GA during Honor Chorus weekend.   Students will be asked to sight-read 6 extremely challenging sight-singing examples.   Sight-singing examples that contain many chromaticsms, harmonic and melodic minor passages, and can change keys.  The event will take place in SAVANNAH, GA on January 29-31, 2015.   

Choral Council:   Student leadership team of 7 members, who meet several times monthly to plan special chorus events, assist Mrs. Archer with management, and be the voice of the chorus students to Mrs. Archer.    

Chorus Annual Competition/Trip:  Open to all choral students;  Every year, chorus will take a trip.  

**In 2012, we stayed local and participated in Southern Star Music Festival, in conjunction with Six Flags over GA--Show Choir earned a Silver rating; Concert Choir was awarded a Gold Rating;  in addition, Concert Choir was the top scoring chorus and won the Sweepstakes Championship.  

**In 2013 we traveled to New York City and competed in New York Festival of Music, where show Choir earned Excellent rating and won First Place in the jazz/show choir division--Concert Choir earned a Superior Rating, Won First Place in Women's Choir division, and was awarded the Over-All Highest Scoring High School Choir!!  

**The 2013-2014 year, we traveled to Disney World where we participated in the Epcot Candlelight Processional Concert and performed with Amy Grant!!!!  

**2014-2015 Trip is yet to be determined.......    :-)
